Floris van Rijn

My name is Floris, and I am a cryptography engineer with more than five years of experience in cybersecurity. I hold two master’s degrees from the University of Bath and Erasmus University, in computer science and finance respectively, and I am the founder of TilapAI, an AI startup dedicated to revolutionizing tilapia farming. Our focus is on building disease detection algorithms that use artificial intelligence to address a wide array of issues in tilapia farming such as disease detection and efficient feeding.

TilapAI was born out of my master’s thesis at Bath, earning me a first class with honours. Our vision is to bring automation and AI to tilapia farms, helping them scale more efficiently, minimize stress on the fish, and reduce overall losses. By integrating AI solutions, we aim to streamline operations and allow farm workers to focus on higher-value tasks, promoting both sustainability and economic growth. Our work has already been recognized, winning the "Moonshots" award and placing as finalists in the Gulliver Entrepreneurship competition.

I also hold a patent for a tension structure and am passionate about endurance sports, which I find greatly complement my dedication to problem-solving and persistence in both professional and personal pursuits.
